Chinese Traditions in a Wedding @ The New York Botanical Gardens
We just shot a great wedding at the New York Botanical Garden with catering by Abigail Kirsch. It was a New York-based couple that wanted to celebrate their Chinese heritage and incorporate elements of a traditional Chinese wedding into their day. First there was an Ancestors Ceremony at the Groom's families house in New Jersey - honoring relatives that had passed over.
The next day the couple booked us for another 12 hours, starting with the 'getting ready' preparation shots at the brides' house, followed by a Chinese Tea Ceremonyy at The New York Botanical Gardens. Here relatives line-up to have tea served to them by the bride & groom, after which they give gifts of either a red envelope or gold jewelry to the couple.
After this ceremony we took golf carts into the spectacular gardens to shoot group shots with everyone, using
the amazing colors of the flowers and plants as a backdrop.
The ceremony was outdoor and we got some fun shots of the bride and groom leaving with an explosion of confetti raining down on them as they were whisked away to the Reception on the back of a golf cart !
After a spectacular spread of Asian-inspired appetizers at the Cocktail Hour, the couple entered the room to thunderous applause, music & cheers.
The bride had a total of four dress changes for the wedding.... starting with a traditional red Chinese 2 peice dress for the Tea Ceremony, a white western-style wedding gown for the Ceremony, another red Chinese dress for the Reception.......before finally leaving in a beautiful 'going away' cocktail dress !!

Kellie visits the Mad Skin Specialist....!
I just wanted to share an amazing skin-care experience I just had over the weekend, that is perfect for brides ( and grooms ! )
On Saturday I found myself lying on my back in a small room in Downtown Manhattan as Julie Lindh of Lindh Cosmetics, applied a series of peels, masks and cleansing lotions to my face
The reason ? Every time I ran into a friend of mine she looked younger and younger each time I saw her. What was her secret ? After I pried it out of her, (Julie Lindh !)I made an appointment and arrived for a quick 'facial'.
This turned out to be more like 3 facials in 1, because Julie approaches each clients' needs individually and tailors the treatments as needed, drawing from a wide range of techniques, potions and lotions.
Mine started with dermaplaning - which is like having your skin scraped with a dull knife, lifting dead skin off and giving your face a fresh look. Then she applied a series of peels, followed by cleansing lotions and tonics.
Next was a machine that feels like a metal robot-hand pinching your skin! (I later learned this is called Micro-current and brings oxygen to blood cells that feed the muscle fibers).
Then came a repair and hydration treatment using light therapy.
I spent about one and a half hours in all, being pampered and treated by Julie - who calls herself The Mad Skin Specialist !
As far as I'm concerened we could all use a little more madness in our lives. Julie offers the perfect remedy for the bride who really wants to truly glow on her Wedding Day !
For more information on Kellie's facial and other services, contact Julie Lindh directly on 646-704-5030 or check out the Vendors section on our site.

Southern Destination Wedding in Central Florida...
4Eyes just shot the destination wedding of Susan & Matt, an American bride & British groom, who married at the ultra-exclusive Isleworth Coutry Club, in Central Florida.
The bride got ready at the spectacular Portofino Hotel ( modeled after the Italian village, right down to a re-constructed copy of the buildings and harbor and complete with italian speaking staff !) and then did finishing touches in a room overlooking the golf course.
The groom drank tea and fixed his tie under a giant British Union Jack !
The wedding itself took over the entire Isleworth Country Club ( where Tiger Woods is a
member !) and the enite affair was designed and planned by the amazing New York-based wedding planning team of JoAnne & Frank from Elegant Occasions.
We got some great portraits of the couple around the grounds, which were peppered with original sculptures by the likes of Henry Moore & Jeff Coons. We also took them down to the lake, which had great light and the feel of the Deep South, with Spanish Moss covered trees.

The wedding was outdoors, in temperatures pushing 100 degrees, so everyone dove for the cool of the indoors for group shots around the Moroccan fountain, in the centre of the club. Rupert could shoot from above while Kellie shot from the front. Came out very well.
The reception was held in the Clubs' Great Hall, a beautifully lit space, with banquet style tables. After speeches and a lavish buffet the dancing took over....
Celebrity guest Joey Fatone from N'Sync ( a close high school buddy of the Brides') was talked into performing a few songs with the band....... and the bride even got up and did a duet with him, singing Greeces' Summer Lovin' to roars of approval from the guests !!

Fabulous Labor Day Weekend Wedding at the WestSide Loft
4Eyes just shot a fabulous wedding @ The WestSide Loft, in Manhattan, over Labor Day Weekend.
Tsigie ( pronounced S-i-g-a-y) & Charles ~ who met in High School ~ drew on elements of the African American culture and traditions ....and blended it with their hip, contemporary New Yorker lives.
Rupert photographed DJ Charles getting ready at a friends' Downtown loft and got great shots while he blasted Hip Hop tunes from his buddies' turntable set-up & fussed over his look.
All the guys then jumped in a friends' SUV and dived down to TriBeca for some cool cobble-stone street shots. Very Reservoir Dogs with everyone in slick suits and black ties.
Kellie hung with the girls and got the 'getting ready' images and did some very daring, 'R' rated portraits of Tsigie posing in the window of her beautiful suite at the Gansevoort Hotel, in the MeatPacking District !
The wedding and reception was at the WestSide Loft and the couple teamed up with planner Ebony Small from Longevity Wedding Consultants to design a New York theme. Each table was identified by a famous New York street, such as 42nd Street or Madison Avenue and there was even a Law & Order Way ( a nod to Tsigie's professional connection with the TV show !)
After a cool traditional Gospel-style ceremony, the couple ended the service by 'jumping the broom' - (a tradition dating back to the African Slave days), where the couple jumps over a broom into their new life together. Then the couple and the entire wedding party danced and grooved their way back down the aisle, straight into the Cocktail Hour !
We got some more fun shots afterwards, outside with the couple and their party, using the gritty New York streets as a background. We even got the couple dancing in the middle of 7th Avenue traffic !
After some great speeches, dinner was served family style to the tables.
Then the party really kicked in with a top New York DJ spinning and mixing Hip Hop and classics with practically the entire wedding crammed onto the dance- floor and dancing long into the night !

A GREEK WEDDING in BROOKLYN
Brooklyn natives Kally & Matthew decided on keeping everything local to the Borough - with a full traditional Greek ceremony at a Bay Ridge church, followed by a reception over-looking New York Harbor and the East River, at Stage 6 in Brooklyn.
After the ceremony, we took the entire wedding party down to the pier below the Broklyn Bridge for some fun portraits with the dramatic New York skyline as a backdrop. After sending everyone back to the limos, we stayed with the couple and got some really romantic shots of them walking hand-in-hand towards us and away from us. One of them gazing out at the Bridge and Manhattan is a favorite.
The reception was at Stage 6, which is part of an active movie & television studio and sound stage. The couple got out of their vintgae limo and entered their wedding on a red carpet, so we got some cool shots of their arrival. The planner was the wonderful Sofia Crokos of
Sofia Crokos Events and her team created a fabulous, dramatic room, with seating arrangements hanging from a huge tree, for guests to pluck their names from !
Cocktails were overlooking the water on their huge deck as the sun set. The festivities kicked in with toasts. As 4Eyes is a team, we both shoot, so one of us is able to focus on the 'toaster' and the other can shoot the couples & guests reactions...so we got some really genuine, emotional images.
The Greek heritage took over again, with guests & Uncles & the couple's father's trying to out-do each other on the dance floor - dancing with arms in the air & bending to slap the floor in time with the band ! We got some great shots of the brides father running around the dance floor propelling $1 bills into the air from a massive wad of cash. It's a Greek tradition to throw money at the couple in celebration......so staff had to sweep up the money into huge piles, as it was all over the floor! The band gets to keep the cash..so they played all the harder throughout the night as the pile grew.
A spectacular firework display ended the evening in style !
Some of the images we took are shortlisted for New York Magazine's upcoming issue on amazing New York City weddings, so look out for that.
The couple loved the images and we'll be shooting Kally's sisters' wedding in The Hampton's later this year, in a vineyard that will be doubling for a Greek hillside ! Can't wait....

A TRULY SCANDINAVIAN WEDDING IN SWEDEN......
When Danish real estate developer Morten, met Norweign make-up artist Sissel in New York City they quickly discovered they had more than their European roots in common !
After deciding to marry, they chose neutral ground for their destination wedding, booking a mansion on a Lake in Kragga, in the Swedish countryside. It was a lavish, international wedding, with guests from all over Europe, South America & The States - including a Norweign television celebrity and runner-up in the Miss Universe competition !
The couple married in a beautiful ancient stone church in the lush green Swedish countryside, then to a cocktail hour by the lake, before a tented reception on the grounds.
Leaning heavily on the traditions of their native countries, this was a very unusual wedding for 4Eyes. For starters, married guests were seated at separate tables ( although engaged couples could sit together ! ) There were at least a dozen speeches ( in either Norweign or Danish ) during which absolute silence was observed, which took several hours.
If the groom left the table at any point, every man in the room would line up and kiss the bride ( and likewise for the groom, if the bride left !) Also, if everyone tapped their glasses the bride and groom had to stand on their chairs and kiss. If guests stamped their feet, the bride & groom were obliged to get under the table and kiss !
After speeches the music came on, the dancing began and the wedding began to resemble an American event. We were able to move around more freely and capture the atmosphere & details of the wedding and even managed to get the couple outside for some cool moon-lit shots by the lake.
This being Summer in Sweden, we were treated to the phenomenum of the White Nights - where the Sun doesn't really set, so it seems like it's around 6pm in the evening but it's really 3am ! The celebration went strong long after the cake was cut......culminating with one last tradition. The groom was hoisted in the air by his groomsmen and his socks were cut off. Nobody had a satisfactory explanation for that one !
